Their single-target damage (more than lancer), splash, and speed are what make them strong to start the game. Their drawbacks are short range and attack speed, as well as not being able to hit air.

I know almost everyone wants them to be a bit weaker, but what exactly should be changed?
Personally, I don't mind the speed - imo reducing damage/splash by a little would work.

What do you think?

I think that their range should be maybe even a little shorter and that would make a huge difference in there capability because they currently can clump easily and do insane dps on one unit.

I would reduce base dmg for sure. there's no other merc that can one shot a hero/elite better than roaches at the start of the game.

also they move too fast

make their speed an upgrade?

Attack speed and movement speed would help balance them out. If those prove too tricky, I'd go with Micro's suggestion of range reduction. That would force them to move closer and take lots of damage moving in.

I actually like roach being on the stronger side early and would even go as far as to say that the other t2 base mercs could get a buff too. People opening T2 mercs more often would mean having less games where it starts with 6 heroes and 2 battlecruisers.. Just having some plain beefier mercs early is refreshing from hero arena. Also I enjoy how roaches are the only ranged champ where it still feels viable to start with rine upgrades.

roach's range is 5.5 if im not mistaken, which is what makes it op
since all range merce has 5.5 range at start but roach has superior damage (also scale), splash, and also start with 3 armor
reducing range to 5 might balance them out (since 3 armor was given in first place because roach's range was shorter than others)

I'd agree with buffs on early batz and small one on Hydra. Roach just need less hp I'm or less damage

giving bats a small move speed buff and maybe +1 armor at start would make them pretty viable i think? would be fun to see bats go meta
