So I was thinking about this earlier and am curious to hear from others: which player(s) inspired or mentored your playstyle with specific units?

For me, some of the major ones were:

Marines: Rhubarb, Sasin, Whirling
Warps: Mystic, Ice
Tanklings: Gerpums
Lancers: Arty, Hiho, Pocky
Devildogs: Leddy
Beetles: Arty
Mutas: Leddy, Ice
Wraiths: Relic, GiTSticker

Mando: Benwa, Vinoy, Lumina
HT: Valour
Festor: GiTSticker, Xikar, Starelf
DT: Leddy, Ice
HK: Sexy
HB: Tamiltiger

Medi: Relic, Seering
Raven: Grayson, Pocky, Ice, Whirlwind
Sentry: Hiho, Bluesky
BC: OTM, IWTL
Mothership: Lumina
Overseer: Whirling, Leddy, Rain
Reaper: Gerpums

Special tactics: Grayson, Snigglez, Whirlwind
Drop base while eating ice cream: SkyKorean

Based on this list, it looks like Ice and Leddy seemed to have the strongest influence on my playstyle in many areas.
I always loved watching Ice's games/replays, and Leddy often trained me in-game, so I guess it makes sense.

I cant really do a long unit list like you since I learned how to play all these units through trial and error and taught myself the best way to use them.

I do however know people who mentored me here is a list: Vendetta(Blindmonk really helped me get from that noob to a pubstomper status lol)
Black: Carried me a lot learned vulture from him back when that was really op.
Rain: Taught me OS as I already had vulture down he also taught me the timing of when to buy all the elites for that strategy.

I have taught two that are now becoming pretty good Toprahmen and Ifinal kinda as vendetta brought me in I tried the same thing with them. It is kinda tradition in a way to teach the noobs who have it in them to become the best one day and I hope it continues.

That is pretty interesting - basically the opposite of me. I developed my own philosophy of how the game is played in general, and learned how to play specific units by watching, getting beaten, or asking others (with trial and error ofc, to tune and combine styles for myself). I also spent many hours in testmode trying to learn micro tricks, since that is the weakest part of my game.

Maybe it speaks to a shift in the population of strong players - there used to be many specialists with specific units in the past, but now everyone is expected to play everything. This is a good thing imo, and is possibly due to the way the game is balanced compared to the past.

except for HKS :( :( :(

Agreed now it seems that all the good players can go any merc and still do well even if countered and are expected to adapt to the situation.

Benwa showed me 90% of what i know. Master mind 5%, ice 5%. I use to always go fester, but then playing with benwa showed me HT play can be better played then fester. I learned air play from ice, i learned sync unpgrades from ice. Mastermind basically just showed me how to use hero/elites with army(always yelling at me to stop putting my hero/elites in my army hotkeys) And it worked, so thank boo.

Thats basically it for me. I really only played with benwa for most of my MA days soooo...
